Company Description
The Environmental Foundation for Africa (EFA) was established in 1992 to inspire and enable, community-led programs for sustainable environmental management as a basis for poverty alleviation. EFA achieves this through advocacy, awareness-raising, education programs and practical actions that conserve the integrity of nature and protect ecosystem services.
2020–2030: The decade of delivery
There are a number of critical deadlines in the decade ahead, from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to the Paris Climate Agreement. Globally, we have already crossed four of the Earth’s nine planetary boundaries. Change needs to start happening at a pace and scale that we have not seen before, if we are to prevent irreparable damage.
- Forest loss across the African content is occurring at twice the rate of the world average
- Less than 10% of Sierra Leone’s forest cover remains, which is contributing to water shortages in the dry season, more flooding and landslides in the rainy season, and an increase in carbon emissions, which contributes to the global threat of climate change.
- Forest protection and replanting efforts are inadequate and yet to become priority in Sierra Leone.
