Job Ad & Profile Description

Position : Student Volunteer, Policy & Communications

IPA's vision is that of a world with more evidence and less poverty. The Policy and Communications team support the second and third Strategic Ambition pillars: sharing evidence strategically and equipping decision-makers to use evidence. The Sierra Leone and Liberia office work on realizing Pillar 1 through the generation of rigorous impact evaluation evidence.

Volunteering with IPA will allow you to gain experience working at a global non-profit organization, learn how to develop new research projects, and provide an introduction to the research-to-policy sector.

Responsibilities

Volunteers on IPA’s Policy & Communications teams will support the following:

Evidence reviews on agricultural investment, including:

  • Organizing relevant evidence and literature
  • Editing, proofreading
  • Contributing to planning and discussions

Project development:

  • Scoping new research topics, including possible field work and stakeholder meetings
  • Developing technical narratives and budgets for grant proposals
  • Supporting on the administrative and organizational functions of the PD team, including entering records into Salesforce, tracking the status of proposals, finding new funding opportunities, researching donors, taking notes at meetings, developing new tools/systems for a more efficient workflow
  • Meet with researchers and support in communications
     

The ideal candidate is flexible, hardworking, and works well on a team; has exceptional written and verbal communication skills; has strong project management skills; has a good understanding of impact evaluation design, especially RCTs; has strong PPT skills; is passionate with distilling evidence into lessons for direct use by development partners; has an interest in the agricultural sector. Experience working with researchers, and experience working in developing countries are all pluses.

Qualifications

  • Prefer candidates who have completed an undergraduate degree in economics, international development, public policy, or other related field;
  • Will consider strong candidates still in their undergraduate programs
